We like to think that Harmony is a school that feels like a home. Its a great place for little ones to begin their academic journey as well as learn how to socialize and become independent. Our small class sizes allow us to get to know each of our students and families in a much more meaningful way. We can focus on the individual needs of each student and ensure that they are receiving all they can from our program.  **10 Month Program:** Your child would be enrolled September - June. This schedule follows the Levittown Public School calendar and does not include school breaks or holidays (ie: Christmas Recess, Spring Break, etc.) **12 Month Program:** Your child would be enrolled September - August. Includes public school breaks and our 8-Week Summer Program. This curriculum focuses on teaching children to get along well with others and become enthusiastic learners. We want children to become independent, self-confident, curious learners who can work well with others. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but all through their lives. We do this by creating purposeful and productive play experiences that help children grow in all areas. Our curriculum identifies goals in four areas of development: Each classroom is equipped with centers for dramatic play, science, reading, manipulatives, art, and blocks.Through the activities we plan and the way we organize the classroom, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children, we seek to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give your child a successful start in school. We believe in the importance of teaching children healthy habits from a young age. At Harmony, we only serve natural and/or organic snacks including fresh fruit, whole grain cereals, bread and crackers, yogurt, etc.  Physical activity is encouraged through music and movement time indoors and outdoor play. We take our students (including infants) outside to play once in the morning and again in the afternoon year-round as long as weather permits. A: Regular program hours are 9am-4pm. We do offer extended care from 7-9am and 4-6pm. Q: My child has never been in a program before and I am nervous about separation anxiety. How do you handle a situation like that? A: We are very comfortable integrating a child with separation anxiety into our program. We would be happy to speak with you before enrolling your child to develop a plan of action to prepare you and your child for his/her first school experience. We have a variety of different methods that can be used in the classroom and at home to help ease your child's anxiety. A: We provide (2) snacks for students enrolled in the full day program. Full day students must bring their own lunch. Each classroom has a refrigerator that may be used to keep lunches cool. Our Toddler, Preschool and Pre-K classes have microwaves to heat up lunches.  A: Our snack menu has been approved by both a nutritionist and the Office of Children and Family Services. We offer a fruits, vegetables, milk, cereal and crackers.  A: At this time, Harmony is not a peanut-free school. However, we do not serve any nut products for snack. Q: How do you handle a child with food or other allergies? A: Parents must inform us of any allergies a child has upon enrollment. All known allergies are clearly posted in the classroom. Teachers are informed and will make sure child is not served food they cannot have. If it is necessary to keep medications or an EPI pen at school, a Medical Consent Form must be completed by your child's physician every 6 months. A: Music is an integral part of our program. Teachers use songs at circle time and to help students transition from clean up, snack, washing hands, etc. There are Music Stations in every classroom for students to explore during free play. Soothing music is also played during rest time. Q: What do I have to send my child with if he is enrolled in a full day program? We can accommodate special services as long as your child's therapist is able to push-in to the classroom. We do have a separate space for your child and therapist to meet. The Summer Program is included in the 12 Month Tuition Schedule. Enrollment for Summer will be open to current 10 month students as well as new students.      \* Water Play everyday \* Art Projects \* Cooking Activities \* Our Summer Program follows a slightly different format than our regular program. Each week revolves around a different theme (ie: ocean, jungle, cooking, sports, etc.). For example: During Ocean Week we may learn about ocean animals, create an ocean in a bottle, paint using seashells, look at starfish using a magnifying glass, make sandcastles in the sandbox and sing songs about water. We are typically very silly throughout the school year, but during the Summer we try to create an even more fun environment for the students. We take full advantage of the warmth and sunshine! Everyday the children will come dressed in their swimsuits and water shoes (with sunscreen already applied). Most of the morning will be spent playing in the sprinklers and/or at the water tables. They will change into dry clothes for the rest of the day. Our classrooms are set up with the same learning centers as normal: blocks, dramatic play, tabletop toys, art, library, science & discovery, and music. Going outside to run, jump, yell, and wiggle allows children to use and improve their gross motor skills and work off extra energy they may have. Playing in the fresh air is healthier than keeping students in a closed building where germs can easily spread. National and state health and wellness best practice standards recommend daily outdoor play for young children. New York State Office of Child & Family Services Regulation 418.7(k) states: “Daily supervised outdoor play is required for all children in care, except during inclement or extreme weather or unless otherwise ordered by a health care provider.” There may be days that your child plays outdoors at Harmony when you would normally keep them indoors at home. We understand that each parent may have a different threshold for what they consider “inclement weather.” That is why we use [these state guidelines](https://s3.amazonaws.com/media.cloversites.com/20/2072bb50-0e6f-4169-a311-3c3d04b28813/documents/Child_Care_Weather_Watch.pdf) to determine appropriate weather for outdoor play. Please note that students are kept inside if we feel the conditions are unsafe.Also, extra precaution is taken with the infant class. The amount of time spent outside varies by day and temperature. In very cold weather, students are outside for no longer than 10 minutes. Because we must maintain teacher/student ratios at all times, it is not always possible to keep a single child inside when a parent feels it is too cold. Because NYS Regulations require us to take the children outside to play every day, be sure to send your child with proper clothes for winter outdoor play — winter coat, hats, scarves, mittens, as well as snow pants, boots, and a change of clothes on snowy days. Feel free to leave an extra pair of mittens and hat to be kept at school throughout the winter in case you think you might forget to bring them back daily. Please note: We have some spare winter clothing items on hand in case a child forgets. However, due to limited staff and the need to stay in ratio, we are not always able to hold a child inside because they do not have a hat or mittens. If we notice a child does not have appropriate winter clothing we will double check their backpack/cubby and sibling’s backpack/cubby for missing items before going outside. We will also send a reminder to send those items for the next day. \*\* All clothing items must be labeled with child’s name\*\* It is very important that we work together and keep sick children at home to prevent the spread of colds, stomach bugs, influenza and other communicable illnesses. According to New York State, students MUST stay home/be sent home for the following: \- Uncontrollable coughing, wheezing and/or difficulty breathing \- Strep Throat (until 24 hours with antibiotic treatment) \*\* Students with a fever may not return to school until 24 hours have passed with no fever. Harmony uses the Lillio App. Using a digital platform makes communication between the parent and the teacher easier and more efficient. Parents receive daily reports for their children along with pictures and videos throughout the day! Our teachers also enter information about the lesson and activities the students participated in along with a log of diapers/potty, meals, naps, etc. The free Lillio app can be easily downloaded from your apple or android app store. Our UPK program runs Monday–Friday from 9:30am to 2:30pm, with the option to add wrap-around care for extended hours.  Give your child a fun, nurturing, and educational start in a warm and supportive environment! *Universal Pre-K (UPK) is a* *free, state-funded preschool program* *designed to give four-year-old's a strong start before kindergarten.
